As the VP of Human Resources, Louise Peddell works to serve Undertone and the incredible people of which it’s comprised. Her philosophy is, “to be truly impactful you need to lead by serving.” Along with hiring, developing, and retaining great talent, promoting employee engagement and fostering Undertone’s amazing culture are Louise and her team’s main areas of focus.
Undertone: How long have you been at Undertone?
Louise Peddell: I have been at Undertone for 7 months.
UT: What are the qualities you look for when hiring Undertone candidates?
LP: In addition to ensuring the qualities and skills perfectly align with the specific role, there are some overall must-haves that we look for when hiring talent: possessing a growth mindset vs a fixed mindset, having passion about what they do, and being personable and collaborative.
UT: What are you most proud of accomplishing during your time here?
LP: Being recognized as a top company to work for in the NYC market was an amazing, company-wide accomplishment. I think that many of the activities my team implemented have, in part, attributed to this recognition—things like our company-wide Wellness Program, our Undertone Cares initiatives (community volunteering and charity), and our multi-point HR accessibility program.
UT: What is the most exciting thing about representing a company on Crain’s Best Places to Work in NYC list?
LP: In such a competitive market, the fact that we can separate ourselves from the rest of the pack is incredibly exciting. It makes me very proud and motivated, and it is an encouraging sign for us to continue doing what we are doing.
UT: What is your favorite thing about Undertone?
LP: Without a doubt, the people are what makes Undertone an amazing place to work.
UT: What new HR programs are you most looking forward to implementing in 2019?
LP: I am most looking forward to implementing Manager Peer Pods. In this program, managers and I meet on a regular basis in a group setting to discuss initiatives and challenges to come up with practical solutions. This program will help to coach managers on a regular basis for real-life situations.
UT: Do you have any special talents?
LP: I can sing in tune and my Spider Web Cheesecake is to die for!
UT: What are you most looking forward to doing this holiday season?
LP: This Holiday Season, I am most looking forward to spending quality time with my 14-year-old daughter Holly, my husband Graham, and of course, my adorable black labs Ony and Charlie.
